Calf Implants Q&A

What are calf implants?

Calf implants are silicone-based prosthetics designed to enhance the shape and size of your calves. If you feel that your legs lack definition or volume, calf implants can provide a more muscular and sculpted appearance.

They’re commonly chosen by people who have difficulty building calf muscles through exercise or want to correct asymmetry or conditions like muscle imbalances due to injury or genetics. Whether you're looking to improve the aesthetics of your legs or enhance your lower body proportions, calf implants can offer a solution.

How does a calf implant procedure work?

Dr. Davila performs your calf implant procedure while you’re under general anesthesia. During the surgery, he makes a small incision behind your knee in the natural crease, where it will be well hidden.

Through this incision, he creates a pocket between the calf muscle and the surrounding tissue. He then inserts the silicone implants into this pocket and positions it to create a natural, muscular look.

Depending on your goals, he may insert one or two implants per leg to achieve your desired shape and volume. Once the implants are in place, he closes the incisions with sutures and bandages the area to promote healing.

What can I expect during recovery?

After your calf implant surgery, take it easy for the first few days, keeping your legs elevated as much as possible to reduce swelling. You’ll likely experience some discomfort, tightness, and swelling in the calf area, but Dr. Davila can provide pain medication.

Avoid strenuous activities, including walking long distances or intense exercise, for several weeks. Light activities like walking around the house are encouraged to promote circulation and healing.

When will I see the results of my calf implants?

You’ll notice an immediate improvement in the size and shape of your calves after surgery, but the full results become more apparent as the swelling subsides. It can take a few months for the implants to settle fully and for you to see the final contour and shape of your legs.
