Facial Implants

Facial Implants

Facial implants are an ideal solution for people who are worried about their disproportional facial features. Facial augmentation with implants is a special cosmetic procedure that is designed to enhance the contours of the face. Specially designed FDA-approved silicone implants, which are available in a wide variety of styles and sizes, are used in the procedure to augment the physical structure of the face.

Chin and cheek augmentation are the most commonly employed forms of facial augmentation with implants. A visit to highly qualified cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Davila is the best way to get started!

WHY FACIAL IMPLANTS?

The skeletal structure and soft tissue of the face determine its appearance. Any irregular formation or deficiency in the bones would be visible on the face. Well-formed cheekbones tend to lift up the face and reduce the sagging of eye bags, both of which positively affect the overall look of the face.

People with flat cheekbones, a weak jawline, a small chin, and reduced bone structure on the face can benefit from facial implants. They can strengthen the jawline to create better facial symmetry, thus bringing a balanced look to the face. People aged 20 to 70 can opt for facial implants.

THE CONSULTATION

During a consultation at our office, cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Davila assesses the skeletal structure of the patient’s face, the position of the chin, and the degree of projection of the cheekbones to decide the course of surgery. He then recommends the optimal course of action for the patient, who can bring up any queries they may have.

THE PROCEDURE

Usually, the facial augmentation procedure starts off with local or general anesthesia. Dr. Davila then makes incisions in the areas where the implant or implants need to be placed. Incisions are made in the lower eyelids or inside the mouth to place implants that augment the look of the cheekbones. Dr. Davila makes an incision inside the lower lip or below the chin for a chin implant.

After an incision is made, a pocket is formed in the facial tissue. Dr. Davila then inserts the implant and closes the incision with sutures. The surgery usually takes around half an hour to two hours, depending upon the extent of surgery.

RECOVERY

After the surgery, there can be visible signs of swelling, along with soreness and tightness due to increased volume in the area.

The patient is sent back home the same day or next day after surgery. Dr. Davila will provide general advice on the do’s and don’ts of recovery, including when to resume regular activities like eating after the procedure.

The stitches or sutures heal within four to five days. Usually, it will take only a week to recover and return to one’s normal routine. In extreme cases, there can be signs of infection or bleeding due to slow healing of incisions; this needs to be immediately reported to our office.

Facial implants are very effective and bring about a well-balanced and proportional look with a sense of youthfulness and confidence. Learn more from Dr. Davila during a consultation at our office.
