Breast Lift Q&A

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts. It addresses issues such as drooping or deflated-looking breasts, often caused by factors like:

  • Aging
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Gravity

A breast lift can give your breasts a firmer, more youthful appearance by removing excess skin, tightening surrounding tissue, and repositioning the nipple for a more lifted look. This procedure doesn’t significantly change your breast size but can be combined with breast augmentation or reduction if desired.

How does a breast lift procedure work?

During the procedure, which typically lasts 1.5-3 hours, Dr. Davila makes incisions to remove excess skin and lift the breast tissue. The location and type of incision depend on factors like the size of your breasts and the degree of sagging.

Common incision techniques include around the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple), vertically from the areola to the breast crease, and along the breast crease. After repositioning the nipple and tightening the skin, he closes the incisions with sutures. The result is a firmer and more youthful breast shape.

What can I expect during breast lift recovery?

You can expect your breast lift recovery to take several weeks. Right after surgery, your breasts will be bandaged, and you may need to wear a surgical bra or compression garment to minimize swelling and support your breasts as they heal.

You might experience bruising, swelling, and some discomfort, but these symptoms usually subside within a week or two. Most patients can return to work within 7-10 days, although strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Dr. Davila provides specific aftercare instructions, including how to care for your incisions and any activity restrictions.

When will I see the complete results of my breast lift?

You should notice the initial results almost immediately, but the final outcome becomes more apparent as the swelling decreases and the tissues settle, usually around 3-6 months after surgery. During this time, scars will also begin to fade.
